Privacy Policy
The short version: Clavis runs entirely on your computer. It does not collect, transmit or store your files, your passwords, your recovery keys or your personal data. There is no account. What follows is the detail.
Your files and passwords
Encryption and decryption happen locally on your PC. Your files never leave your computer, and your password and recovery key are never transmitted or stored anywhere by us — we never see them and cannot recover them.
When the app goes online
The only time Clavis contacts the internet on its own is to check for updates. It requests a small update manifest and, if you choose to update, the update files, from our public GitHub release repository. As with any web request, the server and its content-delivery network can see your IP address and the request; no personal data or file content is sent. You can turn automatic update checks off in Settings.
License activation
When you activate Clavis Pro with a key bought from our store, Clavis sends that key once to our payment provider, Lemon Squeezy, to confirm it's genuine and belongs to Clavis Pro. The activation is recorded under a neutral label ("Clavis for Windows") — no computer name, user name or anything about your files. After that, Pro works offline and needs no account.
While you're online, Clavis re-confirms the key with Lemon Squeezy at most once a day; if you're offline nothing happens and Pro keeps working. Choosing Remove license tells Lemon Squeezy to free that device slot. License keys issued directly by us are verified entirely offline and never sent anywhere.
This website
Our website uses privacy-friendly analytics (GoatCounter) that set no cookies and collect no personal data. We see only aggregate, anonymous figures — page views, referring sites and countries — to understand what's useful. There is no cross-site tracking and no advertising.
Payments
When you buy Clavis Pro, payment is processed by a third-party payment provider. We do not receive or store your card details. The provider processes the information needed to complete your purchase (such as your email and payment details) under its own privacy policy, and sends us the information needed to issue your license and provide support.
If you contact us
If you email us for support, we receive your email address and whatever you include in your message, and use it only to help you.
Children
Clavis is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
